Chicago - Residents of a Chicago apartment whose building will be in the iris of the NATO hurricane are being warned that they should move out for the weekend ... Or risk being trapped within by demonstrators.
FOX Chicago Stories were first to report Friday that the people living in the 17-floor Library Tower building at 520 South State Street were warned in a letter from condo management that "we are STRONGLY endorsing that all residents find places in which to stay during the conference from May eighteen through May 21."
NATO summits frequently attract lots of thousands of objectors. Now, a march is pencilled in on Sunday, May twenty, from the Petrillo Band Shell in Grant Park past Library Tower on State Street to McCormick Place.
The apartment is hiring 2 off-duty cops to provide security ; those cops will be armed.
"In the event of a riot or the potential of one near the building, all access doors will be locked including the garage door," the letter continues. "For everyone's safety, we are going to be teaching anybody in the building to remain in their unit."
"I can't just leave my garage every Time I desire. They are going to be holding us hostage in here," asserted resident Sebrina Krielinger.
The apartment is in a busy area on State between Harrison and Congress, and residents are used to rather a lot.
"It's just pretty shocking to hear and see things are going to be frightful in your own home," claimed resident Jeff Lunz. "I think they've got everybody's best interest in mind."
The letter also warns :
"We are strongly recommending that you don't have any guests over in this time including dog hikers and cleaning companies."
"There will be absolutely no deliveries or moves authorized between Friday, May 18 and Monday, May 21."
"The rotating door will be locked on Fri. morning."
"I'm inconvenienced by parades and some other things. I can not get out on the day of the Thanksgiving Day parade. So that is just a part of city life," announced Lunz.
